We’re on the hunt for a talented Privacy Manager to join our Corporate Governance team in either Haywards heath, West Sussex or Salford Quays, Manchester.
This is a brand-new role within the company, so a great opportunity to shape and develop the role.
The successful candidate will support the business to implement compliance with all applicable data protection/privacy legislation and guidance, as well as supporting the Data Protection Officer in providing leadership in the development and maintenance of the strategic data protection and privacy risk frameworks.
As a 'go-to’ person for privacy, you’ll also provide advice relating to privacy impact assessments for projects within our change framework, ensuring that systems and controls are in place that help the business mature its compliance position in line with risk appetite. 
Job responsibilities
  • Support the Data Protection Officer (DPO) with development of a Privacy team, embedding a clear vision whilst building strong relationships to collaborate with and influence the management community across our organisation and externally, including data subjects, regulators, suppliers and professional bodies
  • Manage company compliance with data protection laws, policies and guidance through business managers and champions; providing advice, support and guidance on risk-based good practice
  • Support the DPO in the monitoring of compliance with data protection laws and policies 
  • Support the maintenance of records required to demonstrate data protection compliance 
  • Supervise and/or advise on data protection impact assessments and develop and execute relevant project plans
  • Support a programme of awareness-raising and training to deliver compliance and to foster a data privacy culture within the company 
  • Review applicable data protection clauses in client terms and supplier contracts
  • Support data incident response and the DPO in data breach notification procedures
Skills, knowledge & experience
  • Significant experience as a Privacy Manager or in a similar compliance role
  • IAPP CIPP/E or CIPM or equivalent data privacy qualification desirable, but not essential
  • Very familiar with national and European data protection laws and practices, including (but not limited to) the Data Protection Act 1998, Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and of course the General Data Protection Regulation
  • Proven track record in leading data protection issues
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of interfacing with data protection regulators
  • Experience in designing and implementing data protection/privacy strategy
  • Ability to make good judgements regarding data privacy risks and to prioritise resources and activity around managing those risks 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Able to conduct the role independently and with integrity 
  • Strong analytical skills
