Data Visualisation Lead

We need a Data Visualisation Lead to join our Data Services Department team in either Salford Quays, Manchester, or Haywards Heath, West Sussex.
Responsible for managing and owning the visualisation development function within the company, the role will see you lead and build a team of visualisation analysts/engineers to provide visualisation development and data consultancy to all business areas within the organisation. You’ll ensure that dashboards, reports and data extracts are designed and developed to meet the business requirements and expectations, enabling real value to be driven from our data. You’ll also help build, maintain and evolve an innovative, fit-for-purpose data visualisation development service to cover core business information, as well as deal with senior stakeholders, providing consultancy and owning the associated visualisation environments and servers.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have:
  • Technical management experience and operating in a change environment and or change delivery in an industry that’s data centric. Insurance, financial or any other Agile working experience (capacity planning, supply and demand experience) would be desirable
  • Extensive background in BI and Data Visualisation/Analytics is required. PowerBI suite of products exp, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Microsoft Stack, particularly SAS and SQL and strong experience of visualisation development
  • Ambitious and organised with senior stakeholder management, influencing skills experience, data consultancy and owning all aspects of change delivery in an Agile environment
Job responsibilities
  • Actively contribute to building a best-in-class Visualisation function, with responsibility for developing new dashboards, reports and data extracts to support business decision making and monitoring
  • Own the design and implementation of key processes, standards and approaches to developing new data Visualisation products
  • Drive the continuous improvement of Visualisation services delivered to the business
  • Ensure that new and changes to existing Visualisation products are in line with business needs
  • Evolve the services offered by the Visualisation function, building on data analytics and insight
  • Maintain and deliver reconciled, consistent and timely dashboards, reports and extracts on datasets including policy, claims, financial, quotation data and other data sets as requested by the business
  • Actively liaise with all areas of the business and business change representatives to ensure data products and management information meets business expectations and that it’s timely, accurate, comprehensive and reliable
  • Responsible for line management duties including coaching and support, identifying training needs, conducting performance reviews (supported by the Head of and HR), developing a team culture and encouraging the team to be creative and realise their full potential
  • Manage risks and issues across the Data Visualisation function and manage the escalation to senior management in the business and Data Services
  • Subject matter expert and owner of the whole end to end Visualisation development service across the 1ST CENTRAL Group
  • Manage the capacity and workload within the Data Visualisation team, liaising with the business and project managers on prioritisation and scheduling of change delivery
  • Ensure compliance across the Visualisation function with company and other relevant standards/regulations at all times (Including TCF)
  • Develop and maintain processes and quality measures across the Visualisation team
  • Continuous development of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and processes within the Visualisation team to increase value to the organisation
Skills, knowledge & experience
  • Extensive background in BI and Data Visualisation/Analytics is required
  • Demonstrable experience of developing, maintaining and administering SAS and PowerBI environments and products
  • Strong experience of senior stakeholder management, data consultancy and owning all aspects of change delivery in an Agile environment
  • Solid experience of managing a medium-sized team
  • Some programming experience is desired, particularly SAS and SQL and strong experience of Visualisation development using the PowerBI suite of products
  • Extensive experience of reporting data structures and design
  • Solid experience of motor insurance products
  • SAS Enterprise BI development tools (OLAP Cube Studio, Web Report Studio, Information Map Studio, Web Portal etc.) desirable
  • Good understanding or experience of Agile and Waterfall and taking ownership of SDLCs
