Are you looking for a new career with a fast-growing, dynamic company? Well look no further! We need a Development Manager to join our Technology team in either Haywards Heath, Manchester or Guernsey.

This is a superb opportunity to lead a dynamic team of developers in creating robust technical solutions for insurance processing, to support the business processes and growth intentions of the First Central Group of businesses.

We’re in a unique position of owning our own software platform and therefore being able to make a real impact in all that we do - we have a number of fantastic projects through the year, including migrating over to Azure. This role would suit an individual really looking to take their career to the next level and be part of our highly ambitious growth plans, while leading the team and developing our internal talent and being part of an exciting growth journey.
 
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:
  • Have strong leadership experience and be able to motivate and mentor a team
  • Experience of change management – process improvement (tracing/using new tools)
  • Utilise and understand metrics to track success
  • Hands on technical experience in a full stack Microsoft environment
 
Job responsibilities
 
  • Lead and mentor a team of Developers in delivering technical solutions through the common approach, ensuring that the necessary resource and skills are available
  • Provide technical leadership in best practices for service-based insurance processing solutions
  • Own the provision of development resource for the onwards development of the Focus platform, meeting deadlines prescribed in the Service Level Agreement
  • Oversee the development activities of third-party development resources we use
  • Day to day line management of the team of Developers
  • Work with the Head of Technical Operations to ensure synchronised management of all development activities
  • Work with the QA Manager to ensure synchronised management of all testing activities
  • Manage and develop a common Agile approach to development across all development teams, delivering technical solutions in a consistent and controlled manner
  • Provide and provision technical consultancy and support during production deployments
  • Create a development plan for Developers that leads to a formally recognised certification in Development
 
Skills, knowledge & experience
  • Strong experience of enterprise level service-oriented development
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a fast-paced Agile development team
  • Demonstrable experience of leading a diverse team of developers
  • Strong understanding of Development and Development Management techniques
  • Understanding of and experience in the private line’s insurance business, the aggregator marketplace and the core business functions of a general insurance provider
  • Excellent experience of Microsoft technologies including C#, WCF, ASP.net and T-SQL
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of a service-based approach to technology, including component, service oriented and event driven architectures
