We’re First Central Insurance & Technology Group (First Central for short), an award-winning innovative insurance and technology organisation, delivering market-leading motor insurance, underwriting, distribution, finance, technology and legal services.
 

We’re looking for someone to join our Procurement team as a Procurement Category Manager - Technology in Salford Quays, Manchester, or Haywards Heath, West Sussex, working hybrid with approximately day per week in the office and the other 4 days from home. 

Working in partnership with business stakeholders, you'll plan and lead on Technology procurement activity in accordance with the strategic procurement plan. You'll deliver expert procurement services and advise on all aspects of procurement activity that deliver value for money, minimises risk and align with business requirements delivering best in class procurement strategies. You will manage an annual spend of c.£20m over 100 suppliers.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • be educated to Degree level or hold an equivalent professional qualification, ideally MCIPS

  • have solid demonstrable experience in leading procurement activity across a range of Technology commodities within a regulated environment

  • have experienced in the formulisation and implementation of procurement strategies, managing the end-to-end procurement process and continuous improvement

Job responsibilities:

  • Work with Senior Management and the stakeholder group to develop and deliver a clear written Technology Procurement strategy

  • Expand the impact of Technology procurement across First Central, embedding strong stakeholder engagement to demonstrate procurement is an integral part of the Technology team

  • Deliver category expertise and strategies within the Technology category

  • Optimise Technology procurement across multiple projects simultaneously

  • Structure and lead procurement activity to ensure value for money is constantly achieved across the most appropriate supplier portfolio

  • Exceptional communication management processes and provide quality advice, influencing and guidance to ensure stakeholders with new project or contract renewal activity are clear on the procurement process

  • Have in depth knowledge of market and commercial trends in Technology to optimise sourcing strategies and leverage maximum benefits from the supplier portfolio

  • Identify opportunities to exploit economies of scale (standardisation, normalisation, consolidation of suppliers etc.) and undertake effective regular reviews with stakeholders to monitor, review and update the Technology procurement strategy considering the demand pipeline, the contract renewal calendar, in-term re-negotiations, benchmarking and supply issues, risks and trends

  • Set clear goals for cost savings and value creation in alignment with business strategy whilst ensuring continuity and robustness of service

  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial and operational risks and issues to support key procurement activities

  • Provide regular reporting and MI as required

  • Always ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards and regulations

Job-specific competencies

Experience & knowledge

  • Experienced in negotiating material contracts whilst minimising business risk and maximising commercial benefit through scale and relationships

  • Able to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines whilst delivering to a high standard

  • Demonstrable experience of both stakeholder and people management

  • A demonstrable knowledge of outsourcing arrangements, best practice and negotiating a sourcing outsourcing contracts

  • A demonstrable knowledge of how technology sourcing and operating models need to adapt as a result of the impact of recent technology changes such as, but not restricted to, Cloud, Agile or automation

  • Can demonstrate a good working knowledge of ITILv4 and its role in the provision of standardised IT Services

  • Tenured and demonstrated experience as a procurement or category manager in the Technology category

  • A track record of implementation of an effective technology procurement strategy that had a high impact in a similar capacity (would be an advantage)

  • Strong negotiation skills and stakeholder influencing skills

  • Legal experience, with a background in technology contracts, is also an advantage

  • Able to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines and use own initiative

  • Numerate with a strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Current knowledge of the global IT products and services market in general and its trends
