We’re on the hunt for a talented IT Data Operations Infrastructure Engineer to join our Technology and Data team in Salford Quays, Manchester, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, or our offices in Guernsey. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the IT Data Operations Infrastructure team, where you will be highly involved in the drive to deliver the progressive IT Services business objectives, while focusing on business infrastructure and platform needs and growth targets.

Your role will entail enhancing the value of our technology estate, operating best practice processes to ensure they remain current, secure and fit for purpose, ensuring SLAs and KPIs are met, while ensuring the business receives a high level of service and platforms remain operational.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Deep understanding of core infrastructure principles with a strong background in infrastructure engineering, including deployment, management and monitoring of assets (for the MS Windows stack).
  • Significant, demonstrable experience of working with Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure solutions (at least with the AZ-900 certification).
  • Some experience of, or at least an appreciation of with a willingness to learn infrastructure related elements of data engineering to support extract/transform/load, analytics and machine learning activities.
  • Significant experience in delivering highly scalable and performant infrastructure solutions with a bias towards those that support data operations.
  • Strong administration of Windows domains, Windows Server and associated storage technologies.
  • Experience and understanding of network and firewall configuration.
  • Strong experience with Information Security and Cyber controls preferably within a regulated environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, establish a technology lifecycle and continuous improvement/ development (CI/CD) of applications and systems
  • Responsibility and operation of a highly scalable, secure and available infrastructure platforms, ensuring that it can operate 24/7
  • Support the prioritisation, planning and execution by partnering and collaborating with the teams and resources across the business
  • Maintain knowledge of information governance standards for Cyber Security, legal and regulatory compliance and an understanding of its application in practice
  • Standard system administration duties including server install, System/Application install and patch management, Windows problem determination and resolution, log analysis, penetration testing remediation etc
  • Support out of hours upgrades/implementations and testing in conjunction with Business Change, Technology and other stakeholders
  • Participate in the creation, maintenance, testing and execution of the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans
  • Support the planning, development, documentation, implementation and testing of the corporate Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity processes and procedures
  • Liaise with suppliers and contribute to building the company’s relationship with them
  • Support and engage in the design, installation, upgrading, operation, control, maintenance and effective use of the network, server, voice and desktop infrastructures
  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards/ regulations (FCA, TCF, DPA and H&S) at all times

 
Skills Knowledge and Experience:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • SC-900 MS Azure Security Fundamentals or willingness to study for such
  • DP-900 certification for Azure Data Fundamentals or willingness to study for such.
  • Security by default approach to delivery.
  • Experience of working within an ITIL framework for incident and change management.
  • Experience of compiling reports and necessary documentation to support project plans and progress.
  • Understanding and knowledge of current Azure data offerings such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, PowerBI, Data Factory and HD insights.
  • Experience/understanding of continuous delivery and integration.
  • Experience using Azure DEVOPS.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Strong IT service background with a customer first approach.
  • Can do and positive attitude towards problem solving and learning new skills.
